Classic Vienna Sights & Wachau Valley Wonders

Discover rural Austria’s UNESCO-protected Wachau Valley on this fascinating Platinum DreamTrip, complete with wine tasting, a medieval abbey tour & more. Plus, view Vienna attractions during a sightseeing tour, then from high up in Danube Tower. Book by July 22.

About Your Trip

When you visit this pretty city on the Danube during this Platinum DreamTrip, you’ll be immediately struck by the gorgeous architecture reflecting the city’s roots in the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. But this cultural hub also reveals a fresh sensibility, evident in Modernist buildings, eclectic art and a sophisticated food-and-wine scene.

You’ll start your adventure in a region that’s designed a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Wachau Cultural Landscape (commonly referred to as “Wachau Valley”). This area is packed with natural and cultural sights including imposing monasteries, castle ruins, quaint towns, verdant vineyards and more. In Wachau, you’ll have a chance to tour Baroque-style Melk Abbey, built in 1089 and overlooking the Danube River. Then, set off along the Danube to Durnstein. There, you’ll learn about the saga of King Richard the Lionheart, while at Spitz, you can explore this medieval market town with a church and main square. You’ll end the day at Sandgrube where you’ll have a wine-tasting experience.

The following day get acquainted with the city on your bus tour around the Ringstrasse (Vienna Ring Road). See the city’s famous landmarks — including Vienna State Opera, the Museum of Fine Arts, Austrian Parliament Building and more. Your final stop is 13th-century Hofburg imperial palace, home to Sisi Museum, Imperial Apartments and Silver Collection.

You'll end your day with a wonderful farewell dinner experience at a restaurant high above the city in Danube Tower — savor gastronomic delights with an amazing panoramic view!

What we love:
• The Historic Centre of Vienna was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001 thanks to its cultural value — it’s a leading music city, and home to significant Medieval and Baroque structures.
• St. Peter’s Church was rebuilt as the result of a vow made by Emperor Charles VI to fix the damage made by the 1679-1680 plague.
• Your hotel is within walking distance of plentiful sightseeing stops, including the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas, Belvedere and the Botanical Garden of the University of Vienna.
• To maximize your enjoyment, download the DreamTrips™ app to access DreamTrips Local — then earn points on dining, entertainment, spa experiences & more at select spots recommended by DreamTrippers just like you!

Destination

Inspiration is in the air in Vienna, the capital of Austria and former home to some of history’s most celebrated classical musicians, as well as other notable intellectual pioneers. Visitors can stop at a coffee house for a warm cup of Austrian brew and stroll the same streets that Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn and Brahms walked centuries ago. Vienna is the most populous city on the famous Danube, and the river’s flow through numerous European countries has helped shaped history in countless ways. While myriad museums and amazing architecture highlight the city’s impressive past, forward-thinking Vienna is also marked by impressive contemporary structures and a transportation system that connects the city within, as well as to other major metropoles.

Vienna is ranked as one of the most livable cities for its prosperity, quality of life and a culture of innovation, which has it a leading destination for international congresses and conventions. As for cuisine, Vienna is known for its sausages (such as bratwurst), schnitzel and strudel, not to mention the numerous Austrian beers available.
